Reviews for RCA Blu-ray/DVD Player with BD-Live - Black (BRC11082) (Electronics) Bought on sale at Target [$79 - 01/2011]; worked slow to start/configure, but is currently working beautifully after several movies.
Pros: Netflix works like a charm and doesn't take up much space with small form factor and is very light; also, kid-friendly and great HD picture and sound!
Cons: Not many frills/options and somewhat slow to do initial setup [not an issue for me and my family].
Summary: First time I haven't bought Sony TV/Movie product, but we're extremely happy with product for the price and will consider buying again for other screens/rooms. If you can get it for <$80-100 and you just want something to play blu-rays and watch Netflix, you shouldn't be disappointed.
Reviews for RCA Blu-ray/DVD Player with BD-Live - Black (BRC11082) (Electronics) I never had a problem with an RCA product for over 30 years until I received this Blu-ray player. When I hooked it up, the player would lock up when the disc menu was on the screen. The remote control didn't work and the play button on the unit itself didn't work. For the HDMI output, the player would revert back to 720p every time I turned it off. When playing a Blu-ray disc or DVD, the audio wouldn't be in DTS or Dolby Digital. It was only in Dolby Surround. I had a replacement unit sent and it had the same problems. It seems that RCA sacrificed quality for a low price. I will never buy another RCA product again.
Reviews for RCA Blu-ray/DVD Player with BD-Live - Black (BRC11082) (Electronics) My family has watched NetFlix continuously since the purchase of this unit. Use and setup is easy. I have not experienced any of the issues described by the other reviewers. I could not find any new software updates but during inital setup the unit will react slowly. Once it is done finding the connection to the internet a couple of times it has not had any slow reaction times. I hope they update it so Hulu and Pandora can work with it but for under 100 dollars it is a steal.
This is a basic unit with a HDMI and some other audio output options. I use it with a Panasonic plasma and it works great. I can not get my Panasonic remote to control the blue ray player.
The most attractive feature has to be the price tag. Your purchases should be protected by your credit cards!
