Reviews for 3D Blu-ray Player, 2D to 3D Conversion, Built-in WiFi, 1 HDMI, Slim;Ultra slim and wall mountable (Electronics) Since the beginning of November, I have been without my Samsung BD-D7500B/ZC 3D blu-ray player, which suffers from Samsung's version of the "XBox Red Ring of Death" - it suddenly has stopped recognizing and playing any and all discs.
If you do an Internet search of the unit's ubiquitous error message "Cannot play this disc. The disc does not meet the specifications" you'll find that this is a widespread problem that has afflicted many, if not all, purchasers of this product, as well, it seems, as those who bought the Samsung BD-D6700 3D blu-ray player. It's becoming quite the Samsung wasteland out there - think: Terminator Salvation (which, curiously, is a good example of a movie I can no longer play).
Not to be outdone by its blu-ray products, Samsung Customer Service has maintained an equally dysfunctional performance since then in trying to resolve my loss of a blu-ray player: unkept assurances, unreturned calls, and numerous fumbles; all causing needless delays - anything except, of course, a resolution.
From what I have researched online, Samsung Customer Service's business model for handling its version of the "Red Ring of Death" seems to be as follows:
1. Have customer send the blu-ray to its repair unit;
2. Sit on the file until the customer calls;
3. Tell the customer the player needs parts ordered from Korea;
4. Sit on the file until the customer calls;
5. Tell the customer the player now needs a replacement;
6. Sit on the file until the customer calls;
7. Replace with another model;
8. Replacement model once again fails to play, straight out of the box;
9. Repeat.
Over 8 weeks later, I am still without a player, the situation having now morphed into the unit being declared unrepairable (that would put me at step 6). In order to break free from Samsung Customer Service's vicious circle of horror (not to be confused with the Samsung blu-ray "Red Ring of Death") before the second round ensues, I convinced them to issue a store credit. However, Direct Buy refuses to process the store credit sent by Samsung because they do not consider my blu-ray player as having been "returned to the manufacturer."
The reason stated is that the blu-ray is instead with their repair unit in Montreal: Service Absolut.
The most attractive feature has to be the price tag. Your purchases should be protected by your credit cards!
